The Method

STEP 3 — SURFACE SCALER: Apply the scaler blade at a low angle to the smooth (flat) surfaces of the teeth — front-facing and back-facing surfaces. Multiple light strokes are more effective and safer than single heavy ones.
STEP 4 — SICKLE SCALER: The sickle shape is designed to adapt to the tooth surface at and just below the gumline — where calculus most commonly accumulates and where a brush cannot reach. Position the working end at the gumline and use light vertical strokes to lift calculus deposits. This is the most technique-sensitive instrument in the kit. Use it gently. STEP 5 — CONE BURNISHER: Use the cone tip in the wider gaps between adjacent teeth — particularly the broader interdental spaces near the back of the mouth. The cone shape allows gentle pressing of gum tissue and removal of debris from these wider interdental areas. It is not a scaler — it is for final cleaning and smoothing in spaces too wide for the probe.
STEP 6 — TONGUE SCRAPER: Extend the tongue fully. Place the scraper at the back of the tongue surface and draw forward with light, even pressure. Rinse the scraper between passes. Two to three passes clears the surface coating of bacteria and volatile sulphur compounds. This is Step Two of the MasterMedi routine — it belongs here even when using the full instrument kit.
FINISH: Rinse your mouth thoroughly. Rinse all instruments under running water. Dry with a clean cloth. Return to the protective case. Do not leave instruments loose or in standing water.
